Malus niedzwetzkyana L.
Niedzwetzky's apple - Malus niedzwetzkyana.
Frost-resistant. Unpretentious. Resistant to pests and diseases. Grows relatively quickly.
The species is named after the botanist Nedzvetsky, who collected the fruits of this apple tree in the vicinity of Kashkar and sent them to Dr. Dick, who introduced it into German culture and gave it its name.
A small tree, up to 3 m tall, with smooth branches without thorns, young shoots are dark purple. The leaves are also purple during the period of blossoming, when the leaves are fully covered, only the petioles remain intensely colored, the plate is dark green on top, purple below, pubescent. This makes the color of the crown very unique.
The flowers in buds are dark purple, when blossoming - intense pink or purple, on thin, white-felt peduncles, which distinguishes it from the general mass of flowering apple trees. The fruits are small, single, up to 2 cm, slightly spherical, with a waxy coating, violet-purple, with pink-purple pulp. Recommended for the widest use, especially good in colorful compositions and single planting on the lawn. The French gardener L. Tillier believed that this apple tree from a decorative point of view has no equal in European gardening.
